Lite Visions Landscape Lighting is not your average run of the mill lighting designer. Joe has went From lighting up the stars to lighting under the Stars.

Light Visions has over 35 years in the live entertainment industry ,working on many different types of projects from helping to illuminate a symphony to the Christmas sensation the Trans Siberian Orchestra.

We use many of the same theatrical techniques to create a beautiful,yet very softly illuminated scene for your property that creates a beautiful backdrop for you to enjoy in the evening hours. Lite Visions Landscape Lighting takes pride in our custom lighting design work and while we primarily work in the Raleigh NC area,we have illuminated clients homes from the coast to the mountains and even as far away as Las Vegas.

Unfortunately, many people in our industry do simple cookie cutter jobs that a lighting rep showed them how to do.That usually means lighting one thing with one fixture one sided with no knowledge of lamp types ,shielding the light or any real design other than sticking a fixture in the ground.

We are very proud to be chosen by Coastal Source to be an installer for their concert quality outdoor audio systems in 2022.

Concert and Theatrical Lighting Background Touring over 30 years

Lite Visions Landscape Lighting’s owner Joe comes from a concert and theatrical lighting background and will use a few of those lighting techniques to make your home and property into a night time resort oasis. Lite Visions landscape lighting uses only the best lighting fixtures and equipment available to the professional. Joe looks at things in a more artistic manner and lights things up as your eye sees them ,not flat and one sided as many people who install landscape lighting in the area seem to do ,we see quite a few bad lighting jobs driving out of neighborhoods in the evenings when leaving clients homes. Many installers seem to think more lumens is better on a lot of things they light and this is not usually the case with landscape lighting. Most times less lumens is more with a properly shielded lamp source to hide the light from view when walking past.

MAGICAL OUTDOOR LANDSCAPE LIGHTING AND A LIGHTING DESIGNER WITH A VISION

I get a few phone calls weekly that start out like this,I have a 1-3 year old lighting system and it just doesn’t look like some I have seen. Can you stop by and take a look at it. Whomever installed their lighting gave them a very basic install and probably did not even come back to do a night time lighting focus. I usually set up a time to stop by and see what their outdoor landscape lighting looks like and setup a time to stop back another evening and do a nighttime demonstration of what their outdoor landscape lighting could look like. Coming from my many years of working on concert and theatrical lighting I see things in a very different perspective. I work to create depth,definition as well as layers to give a property a magical nighttime lighting effect. I actually have lighting vendors who have seen my work and send me samples of their products.

LITE VISIONS LANDSCAPE LIGHTING’S OWNER JOE’S CONCERT LIGHTING HISTORY TO OUTDOOR LANDSCAPE LIGHTING HISTORY IN NASHVILLE IN THE MID 90S

Going from concert lighting to landscape lighting was an easy transition for me coming from many years in the concert lighting industry. One of the concert lighting companies I worked with in the mid 90s was Bandit Lights in Nashville. Bandit had a rich history and I had been calling and sending in a resume for a few years. In 1993 as I was just starting a huge tour I called home from my Miami hotel suite to check in with my mom and had a message from a friend at Bandit,he said call they want you to come in and talk about a tour.I went to Knoxville and spoke with the owner and soon went out on the first tour with Dan Fogelberg as the lighting technician. That tour ended and I got a call back in NC could I go out and do a Christmas tour with the Oak Ridge Boys. The Oak Ridge Boys,Brenda Lee and Alvin and the Chipmunks. A little after Christmas I got a call asking if I would thing about relocating to Nashville to work on a tour with a new country artist Alan Jackson on his first headline tour. Nashville turned out to be a nice place and you run into so many artists while at the Kroger shopping. We did a songwriter award show at the Ryman auditorium and not being so country music aware,a nice gentleman came back by my dimmer area side stage and asked if he could sit back there with me . a few minutes later my boss from Bandit called me on the headset and said,Joe how do you know Vince Gill 🙂

I did a few weekend gigs with our account at the time WWF wrestling which carried a huge lighting production,I have to say there is nothing more humorous than fogging up the Undertakers coffin so another wrestler could break it up with an axe during a backstage cutaway scene. WWF was sure alot of fun and alof of frequent flyer miles.

Probably my most memorable tours were with Billy Ray Cyrus who we got to see go from headlining arenas to going down to just one truck to playing casinos. The other side of the coin was being a part of a country tour where Tim Mcgraw was opening for Little Texas with Blackhawk opening,seemed like overnight don’t take the girl came out we did a video shoot and bam suddenly people knew the words and sang it louder than Tim did,we watched Tim turn into the headline act and it could have not happened to a nicer guy.

Unlike a lot of low voltage outdoor landscape lighting companies who simply have added outdoor lighting as a secondary sideline to their other business, or have bought into a cookie cutter outdoor lighting franchise.

Outdoor Lighting is Lite Visions only business and recieves 100% of my attention.

I spent many years travelling in the music industry doing lighting for bands.When I decided to stop travelling 10 months out of the year and was talking to a friend who was in the outdoor lighting industry he convinced me that outdoor lighting design would be a natural transition for me,as I was already lighting up structures only on stages.

I started out many years ago working for a neighbor whose kids I grew up with in a beach band called the Embers,that set the stage for working with a local group that had a record out called Nantucket and another Raleigh band who had several records out Glassmoon. I was in Atlanta doing a show and called a friend with a production company to eat lunch and it was a turning point in my career,he offered me a tour with a group called Kool and the Gang,not only would I be a technician setting up themassive concert lighting,but I would get to operate lighting for several opening bands including KC and the Sunshine band. Over the years I was fortunate to work in all generes of music from rock to country to pop and even got to tour with WWF wrestling and the holiday sensation Trans Siberian Orchestra.

I consider myself very fortunate to have had a long career in the music industry,but am glad to be close to home and designing beautiful outdoor lighting that homeowners can enjoy.
