Landscape Lighting Design for Governors Club
Governors Club is a gated golf community of custom homes on about 1,600 acres just south of Chapel Hill, wrapped around Edwards Mountain. Its 27-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature course is laid out as three nines, the Lakes, the Foothills and the Mountain, winding past lakes and woodlands. Homesites run from about half an acre to more than three acres, and many homes are set into hillsides for the views.
At Lite Visions, we don’t install outdoor lighting.
We compose with light.
Joe Yanulevich is an artist with light: a Raleigh native and a 35-year concert and stage lighting veteran.
Designed for Wooded Hillsides and Long Views
Homes in Governors Club often feature:
- Heavily wooded, sloping lots
- Long, winding drives
- Golf course, lake and ridge views
- Architecture ranging from traditional brick to contemporary
After dark, a forested lot can feel like the house is floating in black. Soft uplighting along the drive turns arrival into a welcome instead of a tunnel, and moonlight-style downlighting from high in the canopy lets dappled shadows fall across a path or terrace.
A Composer’s Approach: Visionettes
We design in small, intentional scenes we call “Visionettes,†composed to be enjoyed from:
- Inside the home, looking out
- Terraces, decks and outdoor rooms
- The drive and the approach to the front door
Some of the best stage designs use almost no scenery, just light shaping the space. A wooded property already has its scenery; Joe lights the strongest trunks and canopies with restraint and leaves the rest in shadow for depth.
Soft, Warm and Built to Last
Our systems are built around:
- Warm 2700K color temperature
- High CRI lighting for natural, accurate color
- Precision aiming and glare control
- Solid brass fixtures and integrated LEDs, with clean, concealed wiring
The best lighting is felt, not seen.
Protecting the Design: the Lighting Preservation Program
Landscapes keep growing after the lights go in. Our Lighting Preservation Program brings us back to your Governors Club property once or twice a year to clean, re-aim and fine-tune every scene, so the design keeps looking the way it did on the first night.
