Landscape Lighting Design for Olde Raleigh
Olde Raleigh is a gated neighborhood of about 150 homes on roughly 100 wooded acres between Duraleigh Road and Edwards Mill Road, a few minutes from Crabtree Valley and Umstead State Park. Its stately, largely brick traditional homes sit around three lakes, each with a centerpiece fountain, and it’s often described as the only gated community within Raleigh’s city limits.
At Lite Visions, we don’t install outdoor lighting.
We compose with light.
Joe Yanulevich is an artist with light: a Raleigh native and a 35-year concert and stage lighting veteran. Lite Visions has lit homes in Olde Raleigh, including the brick home and pool house shown on this page.
Designed for Brick, Water and Wooded Lots
Homes in Olde Raleigh often feature:
- Classic brick architecture with columns, porches and detailed millwork
- Wooded and tree-lined backyards
- Lake views, pools and outdoor living areas
- Established plantings like crape myrtles, magnolias and azaleas
Soft, grazing light brings out the texture of brick and trim without flattening it. And water is a gift to a lighting designer: light the columns of a pool house or the trees along a bank, not the water itself, and the reflections do the rest.
A Composer’s Approach: Visionettes
We design in small, intentional scenes we call “Visionettes,†composed to be enjoyed from:
- Inside the home, looking out
- Decks, patios and poolside seating
- The front walk and the approach to the door
On stage, the audience should feel the light, not notice the equipment. Here, too, fixtures are hidden and beams are aimed away from windows and neighbors.

Our systems are built around:
- Warm 2700K color temperature
- High CRI lighting for natural, accurate color
- Precision aiming and glare control
- Solid brass fixtures and integrated LEDs, with clean, concealed wiring
