Landscape Lighting Design for Treyburn
Treyburn sits in the rolling hills of northern Durham County, a gated golf community assembled from old farmland and forest in the early 1990s. Its roughly 5,300 acres border Falls Lake, Lake Michie and the Little River Reservoir, and more than 1,600 surrounding acres are protected under permanent conservation easements. The land here is as much a feature as the homes.
At Lite Visions, we don’t install outdoor lighting.

Joe Yanulevich is an artist with light: a Raleigh native and a 35-year concert and stage lighting veteran. Lite Visions has lit homes in Treyburn, and the photos on this page come from that work.
Designed for Treyburn’s Hardwoods and Fairways
The rolling hills and hardwoods that frame Treyburn Country Club’s Tom Fazio-designed course carry right into the neighborhoods. Homes in Treyburn often feature:
- Mature hardwoods and wooded edges
- Golf course and open-green views
- Rolling, sloped lots with layered gardens
- Patios, terraces and decks that look out over the land
After dark, a wooded lot can disappear into black. A few well-placed lights bring it back, whether it’s a garden patio beside the course, a little footbridge over a dry creek bed or the view from a sunroom window: the trees glow, the paths read clearly and the woods take on depth. On the course side, soft, shielded light keeps the home graceful from the fairway.
A Composer’s Approach: Visionettes
We design in small, intentional scenes we call “Visionettes,†composed to be enjoyed from:
- Inside the home, looking out
- Patios, porches and outdoor rooms
- The drive and the approach to the front door
Just as a concert lighting designer checks the show from the audience, Joe checks every scene from the places you actually sit.
