Landscape Lighting for The Cove at Falls Lake
The Cove at Falls Lake is an intimate gated enclave of just 16 wooded homesites with private lake views. There’s no shared clubhouse. The appeal is privacy, nature and custom architecture, and each home’s own outdoor space is where evenings happen. On wooded lots with water beyond the trees, the landscape itself is the main attraction, and it’s worth seeing after sunset too.
When your backyard is the clubhouse, lighting matters. The terrace, the fire pit, the path down through the trees and the view toward the water are what you’ll enjoy most, and they’re exactly what disappears at sunset without good light.
Protecting the View
A lake view at night is a delicate thing. Light the yard too brightly, and the water vanishes behind the glare. Light nothing, and your windows turn into black mirrors. The answer is in between: soft, layered light in the foreground, a few trees lit to frame the view, and the lake left dark so it can reflect them.
On wooded lake-view lots like these, we often plan:
- A soft foreground on the terrace, so the view opens up from inside
- A few trees near the water lit for gentle reflections
- Paths through the woods lit low, with fixtures hidden in the plantings
- Fire pit and seating areas lit warm and low for long evenings outside
- A drive and entry that welcome you home without a runway of path lights
Good Neighbors on the Water
Light carries across water. A single bright fixture on one shore can glare at homes on the other side and wash out the stars for everyone. Joe keeps lighting near the lake warm, shielded and aimed down, so your property glows softly from the water and the night stays dark.
The Stage-Set Idea
Joe Yanulevich spent more than 35 years lighting concert and theatrical stages, and his work appears in the book Masters of Landscape Lighting. He lights a yard the way a good set designer lights a scene: lower lumens, more fixtures and shadows on purpose, so your eye moves from moment to moment and the dark spaces add a little mystery. You notice the garden, not the lights. He explains more in You Can’t Un-See Bad Landscape Lighting.
Every project begins with Joe on your property after dark, and he designs every job himself. Once it’s installed, our Lighting Preservation Program can bring us back to clean, re-aim and fine-tune as the woods grow in.
