There are technicians, and there are artists – and Joe is a lighting artist.

I came in with a vision for what I wanted for my back yard patio, but Lite Visions landscape lighting of Raleigh showed me that I could have been aiming much higher. I’m nothing but pleased with how it turned out. The quality of the product and the service is very good, and they worked with me and my schedule to get things set up quickly and conveniently. Joe really, truly understood what I needed and was able to get the project done. Raleigh NC ClientsLighting Artist

Joe did a great job of lighting our house. He’s very nice, talented, and shows up when he says he will. I wanted the lights to accentuate house, not so lit up that it’s like a runway. Because he has a background with doing lighting for concerts, he knew where to place the light for best results, not just randomly placing them anywhere. After driving around neighborhood, our landscape lighting is also ‘softer’ – not so bright and definitely not as white. You don’t think too much about that (at least I didn’t), until you look at everyone else’s. Personally, I think ours look better. It’s nice because he’s the owner and installer. We are very pleased that we went with him. Wake Forest NC Clients lighting artist

This is the best decision we made to have Joe come and transform our curb appeal by his deep expertise, passion and unique eye for lighting. He is an artist and a true professional. He is fair in his pricing and dedicated to delighting customers. We can’t wait to do more lighting with you in the future. Don’t look any further, I don’t know how you could have a better experience and result than Lite Visions! He also recommended Woody with Carolina Professional Landscapes to do some refreshing of our beds and plant varieties and it made a huge difference. If you need both, they are the dream team. Joe did a superb job both in design and installation. Easy to work with and dependable. Highly recommend.
Great experience with Joe, a true artist! His many years of working with concert and theater lighting gives him a unique perspective and eye for what looks good – without being over the top. In our side yard natural areas, Joe placed several soft lights high in the trees, aimed downward that gave our yard a whole new perspective. We highly recommend Lite Visions Landscape Lighting. Wonderful experience! Cannot say enough good things. Joe came, he saw, and he conquered with exquisite taste, patience, and good humor our new home construction project. We were indeed fortunate that friends recommended this lighting artist to us and he was willing to travel – repeatedly – two hours each way to give us this performance we joyfully now have night after night. Thank you Joe! New Bern NC Clients

There are technicians, and there are artists – and Joe is an artist. We live on a large wooded lot and recently did a major house remodel which required pulling up a lot of our existing lighting that was over 15 years old. Joe was recommended to us and once we became aware of his background in theatrical lighting and got a Iook at his website we couldn’t wait to work with him. Joe came out on a Saturday and did a complete and thorough walk around of our lot, asking questions about what we wanted and also making suggestions. He was a pleasure to talk to and to be around, totally down to earth, absolutely no BS. By the end of that consultation, which lasted a couple of hours, we pretty much decided to give Joe carte blanche to do a complete and total reset, so confident were we in the vision he had for our property – and we are so glad that we did. Joe works with what I would call a “soft palette” – he fills in spaces with light and with balance. He most definitely “paints a picture” The resultant effect is calming to the spirit and beautiful to the eye. After the installation, he came back out two nights in a row to make sure we were happy with the vision he had created and that he was happy with it too. Like I said, Joe is an artist. He is also a genuinely nice guy who I have enjoyed getting to know just as much as I’ve enjoyed working with him. I really can’t offer a higher recommendation than that. good lighting designs

Good lighting design and educating my clients in the differences. These are a few examples of Good vs Bad outdoor landscape lighting.  My job as a lighting designer is to help educate my clients all about proper lighting design techniques. It seems I see so many BAD landscape lighting jobs when I ride out of these subdivisions in the evening that I have to call attention to them to help my clients SEE and hopefully understand the difference.

With properly designed and installed outdoor landscape lighting, there are a few things to consider as a lighting designer.

Lumens: lumens is lighting output of a lamp or LED chip

I see many many jobs where the light level is way too much on a homes architecture or on trees or plant material, causing a really bright hot spot on the bottom middle of the object itself.

Another thing viewed at night are the wrong color temperature lighting or the wrong width lamp which can create a V pattern going up the walls and architecture of the home.

As a lighting designer I want to create soft illumination on what I light and use a proper spread of illumination to light trees from at least two or more sides to create a portrait with illumination for the client to view thru their windows or doors. Not just a one sided vision that the neighbors can view passing by. The world we live in is not just one dimensional.

I have been blessed with the ability to envision things that are not yet there to create a private backyard sanctuary for my clients to enjoy in the evening hours,to highlight all their favorite things about their residence.

Here are a few examples of BAD lighting,Hot spots and not enough lighting to properly illuminate the homes architecture.

Please remember: before you hire that other contractor to install your lighting because of some advertised special or as one of their many other services.

Researching and choosing the right landscape lighting designer who has a vision is much like commissioning a piece of art for your residence.

At Lite Visions Landscape Lighting:

We are not light fixture sales people.

We are true lighting designers whose pallet is illumination of your beautiful homes architecture and landscape and as such we possess the ability to create your private sanctuary to enjoy in the evening hours.

Imagine driving home to your own private backyard oasis after that stressful work day  and coming home to sit under the stars with the beautiful illuminated backdrop behind you listening to soft music and letting your cares leave your mind.

Compare these examples of GOOD lighting design to the photos of BAD lighting.

Artist Definition

Artist,Definition :Someone who has creative skills and is able to see and create things others can not even imagine could be there.Weather on a stage setting or on a beautiful property or a homes architectural features. As an artist who patients with illumination,I look at the big picture of creating a painting with light that can be viewed from different angles as well as from inside looking out the window.

Less lumens is usually more with landscape lighting
Sometimes it’s hard to convince a person more than one light fixture per object might be needed to create the magic. They only know what they have seen prior, weather it was right or wrong.
Imagine telling an artist painting a beautiful photo to use less colors or brushstrokes.
Thankfully most of our clients understand what we do and usually give us free reign to create our art with illumination.
Using more fixtures on a tree or other object gives us the artistic freedom to properly illuminate it from all sides and create a lower lumen level and equally allow it to be viewed 3 dimensional, not just one sided.
The world is not flat and neither should your landscape lighting be flat and one sided.

What is your best home or garden tip for the season?
If you are considering outdoor lighting, please make sure the person you use knows what they are doing. I see jobs where the job looks cheap due to the fact someone put lights under the windows of the home instead of lighting up the architecture of the home. Or they installed a transformer in plain sight of the front of the home. A number of people install lights, that does not mean they are lighting designers. I paint pictures with light.

What are your featured deals this season?
I work with companies who offer the best products and warranty available in the professional outdoor lighting industry. I stand behind my installations and get many referrals because of that.

What are your home and garden pet peeves?
Seeing a BAD lighting job when I drive out of a neighborhood in the evening knowing some homeowner paid good money for that job and does not know the difference. We are not a lighting franchise that can be sold to anyone wanting to open a franchise business. We do not sell or install inferior products just to make a profit. All of our products have the best professional warranty available to the lighting professional. As a lighting designer. I want to walk into a home and see what the owner’s view is outside to paint a beautiful picture with lighting that they can view. Some installers just put up a few lights that people riding by the home can see, that is not a lighting design. But what their franchise told them to sell as a package. Some companies stick lights in the ground and never come back to see how they look at night.

What is the strangest client request you’ve ever received?
To light a big tree in a front yard that I would not have chosen to light, the couples son had recently passed away and he had planted that tree for his mom. When I heard that story I lit that tree for no charge.

What is your favorite part of the home show?
Meeting and making friends from all walks of life and hearing the ohhs and ahhs from them the first time we turn their new lighting on. I recently did a lighting design and spent alot of time with the client over several evenings. He was so in awe of what the initial lighting looked like that we installed more lighting and he was like a kid with a new toy. I am passionate about my lighting designs.

Any additional information you’d like people to know?
Professional outdoor landscape lighting is not cheap, I work with an interior designer who says “Do it right and you only cry once”. My designs include seeing the effects not the light source.I work with many different types of fixtures, lamps, color temperatures, filters and shields. Maintenance is a must,I can’t tell you how many old installs I get called to look at where a fixture or cable has grown into a tree.
